Het album "Prokofiev: War And Peace" op dvd werd uitgebracht in 2023 en bevat een grootschalige uitvoering van Sergej Prokofjevs opera door de Bayerischer Staatsopernchor en Bayerisches Staatsorchester onder leiding van Vladimir Jurowski. De solisten zijn onder andere Andrei Zhilikhovsky, Arsen Soghomonyan, Mischa Schelomianski, Olga Guryakova, Olga Kulchynska, Violeta Urmana en de Bayerische Staatsoper Kinderkoor. Prokofjev componeerde deze opera samen met Mira Mendelson, gebaseerd op Tolstojs roman.
De opera behoort tot de laat-romantische, neoklassieke stroming binnen de klassieke muziek, gekenmerkt door grote dramatische koorpartijen en strakke muzikale structuren die een nationaal-patriottisch karakter weerspiegelen. Het werk verlangt een bijzonder grote bezetting van zangers, koor en orkest, en kent een monumentale lengte en klank. Prokofjevs stijl in deze opera is gericht op epische expressie maar ook op lyrische muzikale uitwerkingen.
Deze productie van de Bayerische Staatsoper op dvd toont zowel de muzikale als de dramatische kracht van Prokofjevs meesterwerk, waarin de overgang van de intieme scènes naar de massale oorlogscènes bijzonder goed tot hun recht komt door de betrokken musici en het visuele karakter van de opname.
